Changpeng Zhao (CZ), the founder of Binance, has revealed that BNB Chain will undergo a Pascal Hard Fork on March 20, 2025. This highly anticipated upgrade is expected to enhance Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility, improve developer flexibility, and introduce EIP-7702 smart contract wallets, marking a major milestone for Binance’s blockchain ecosystem.
The Pascal Hard Fork is just the first of three major upgrades planned for BNB Chain in 2025, with Lorentz (April) and Maxwell (June) hard forks set to follow, further improving speed and efficiency.
Pascal Hard Fork: What’s Changing?
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Binance confirmed that the Pascal upgrade will integrate EIP-7702, a feature designed to allow wallets to temporarily function as smart contracts. This change will offer several key benefits, including:
1.Gasless transactions via payments, making it easier for users to interact with Web3 applications.
2.Batch approvals & swaps in one click, streamlining decentralized finance (DeFi) transactions.
3.Simplified onboarding for new Web3 users, reducing friction for blockchain adoption.
The EIP-7702 upgrade has already been successfully tested on BNB Chain’s testnet as of February 25, and it is now set to be deployed on mainnet.
🔹 Important Reminder for Validators & Node Operators:
All validators, node operators, and crypto exchanges must upgrade to v1.5.7 before March 20, 2:10 a.m. UTC, or risk desynchronization from the network.
What’s Next? More Hard Forks Incoming
Pascal is just the beginning—two additional hard forks are scheduled later this year to further optimize BNB Chain’s speed and performance:
🔹 Lorentz Hard Fork (April 2025): Reducing block generation time to 1.5 seconds.
🔹 Maxwell Hard Fork (June 2025): Further cutting block time to 0.75 seconds for even faster transactions.
These upgrades will significantly enhance transaction speeds, positioning BNB Chain as one of the most efficient blockchains in the industry.
CZ Reveals Progress on His Upcoming Book
In a separate development, CZ surprised the Binance community by revealing details of a book he has been working on during his time away from the company.
📖 According to CZ, the first draft is now 114,000 words long, but he admits that it has been a challenging process. He expects it to take three times more effort to complete the final version.
CZ previously mentioned that he would use his free time to document his experiences in the crypto world, and this book could provide valuable insights into Binance’s journey, industry trends, and regulatory battles.
BNB Chain’s Future Looks Bright
With major upgrades on the way and Binance doubling down on innovation, BNB Chain is gearing up for a faster, more efficient blockchain ecosystem. As Pascal, Lorentz, and Maxwell hard forks roll out, developers and users can expect improved scalability, reduced transaction costs, and enhanced interoperability with Ethereum-based applications.
🔥 Stay tuned for the March 20 upgrade, and make sure to update your nodes in time!
