In a significant crackdown on digital piracy, the Mumbai Police have shut down a popular Telegram channel named BJ Tech Knowledge after a criminal complaint was filed by Disney Star. The channel was found to be illegally distributing content from major broadcasters, including Disney Star, Viacom18, Sony, and Zee.
The complaint, lodged at NM Joshi Marg police station on April 27, 2024, led to an investigation that culminated in a police raid on August 11. The channel’s operator, Balaji Asaram Jaybhaye, was arrested during the raid. Authorities seized his laptop and phone as part of the investigation.
BJ Tech Knowledge had been facilitating piracy by sharing content URLs in a Telegram group, enabling users to stream content through a network stream player app. To access the pirated content, users were instructed to download the app from the Google Play Store or iOS, and log in using URLs provided in the Telegram group.
The shutdown of BJ Tech Knowledge marks a significant step in the ongoing battle against digital piracy in India, highlighting the serious consequences for those involved in such illegal activities.
